Funerals

Funerals

Anyone can ask for a Church of Scotland funeral, you or the deceased do not need to be a member of our congregation.

Bridge of Weir is divided up into two Church of Scotland parishes (geographical areas linked to a congregation) with Freeland Church being our local neighbours. Parish boundaries are not very strictly observed, although out of courtesy the ministers will inform each other if they have been asked to do a funeral for someone who is not in their congregation or parish area.

There is no charge for the services of a Church of Scotland minister to lead a funeral, as we minister to the parish. If the church building is used for a service, there may be a charge for the caretaker and organist fees. We have recently reduced our fees for funerals held in the church to £130 to help combat funeral poverty.

Our minister can be approached to lead funerals in our church, at a graveside or at a crematorium. This approach is usually made via the undertaker, but families can make direct enquiries as well. Please check availability with the minister before making all other arrangements.

Funeral services can be made as personal as you want in discussion with the minster. They can include a eulogy delivered by family, friend or the minister. They do not have to include hymns but will always have prayers and a Bible reading to convey the Christian message of hope.

If you would like to discuss this further please call Hanneke Marshall on 01505 612975 or email her by clicking on the following link contact our minister.
