You don't have to be or become a member to attend church or to play an active part in the life of our congregation. We do however encourage you to consider becoming a member as an expression of your personal faith and commitment to follow Jesus Christ and also so you can fully participate in church life.
In order for an infant to be baptised the Church of Scotland also requires for at least one parent to be a member of the church or be prepared to become one.
You can become a member (sometimes referred to as 'being admitted to the communicants' roll') after taking membership vows in a church service. In order to prepare for these the minister offers annual membership classes where the meaning of the Christian faith is explored and what is involved in becoming a church member.
In the vows we confirm our faith, our dependence on God's grace and forgiveness and our commitment to follow Jesus. We also promise to be faithful in coming to church; in reading the Bible and in prayer; to give a fitting proportion of our time, talents and money for Christ's work in the world and to publicly confess our loyalty to Jesus Christ, to serve him daily and to walk with him.
If you have not been baptised as a child then baptism would follow after you have confirmed your faith.
